Enterprise back-office System Requirements

ProjectCompanion 2009

BEFORE INSTALLING -- print this page for reference

Check that the ProjectCompanion is installed on your server. If you do not have an installation of ProjectCompanion, please visit ProjectCompanion download page (opens in new window).

  INSTALLATION

For detailed instructions, please see the Installation and Setup Guide.pdf.

  • Log in to the computer with administrator permissions (required to install software).
  • Download the relevant files from the side bar to the left. If you are installing on one client, you can run the installers for the management console and business reports tool. If you are rolling out the system for several users it may be easier to download the files to set up the back-office applications to be accessible from a server share.
  • Configure the SQL Server database to accept remote connections.
  • Give the Windows user accounts permissions to access the ProjectCompanion database.

START THE SYSTEM AND LOG IN

When you log in to ProjectCompanion from a client computer for the first time, you first need to set up the connection to the ProjectCompanion database. You can then log in with your ProjectCompanion account.

  • Start the ProjectCompanion Management Console (from the Windows Start menu on the client computer)
  • You will be asked to enter login information to the database. Use the provider: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server.
  • Enter the name of the SQL Server you want to use. If you have SQL Server Express installed with default options the name is SERVERNAME\SQLEXPRESS, where SERVERNAME is the name of the computer the database is installed on.
  • Select Windows NT Integrated security. Note that this assumes that the Windows account used on the client has permissions in the ProjectCompanion database. If you select Use specific user name and password, you can log in with a SQL Server login, for example sa.
  • Select the ProjectCompanion database on the server
  • Click Test connection to see if the database connection was successful.

ProjectCompanion now knows what database to log in to.

  • Log in to the ProjectCompanion Management Console with user name admin and password admin (if you have not already changed this login). You can log in with any ProjectCompanion user account that is included in the administrator group in ProjectCompanion.

You should now have the opportunity to add customers, projects, currencies, orders, invoices, etc. If you do not have Microsoft Access on your computer, you should also install ProjectCompanion Enterprise Business Reports. This makes it possible to print reports, orders, invoices, etc.
